DAVID WALIA, Toronto Criminal Defence Lawyer

David began his legal career at the prosecutor’s office in Arizona, where he quickly developed a strong foundation in criminal law before transitioning to corporate law. His time in the anti-trust departments and Wills and Estates office of one of the Big 4 accounting firms further broadened his expertise. After spending most of his adult life in the United States, David returned to Canada, where he briefly served at the Crown’s office before finding his true calling in criminal defence.

David is passionate about the personalized approach required in criminal defence work, where he focuses on guiding those most in need of legal support. Known as a zealous advocate, David does not shy away from conflict. However, he firmly believes that the best outcomes are achieved when the Crown and defence collaborate openly and civilly, working together to resolve issues in a constructive manner.

David has been published in the Dispute Resolution Journal for his work on Securities arbitration and is the author of a book on the Second Amendment. Beyond his professional life, David is a lifelong Yankees fan who firmly believes that football should never be called soccer and that basketball is the best sport to watch on TV. A dedicated chess player, David prefers the d4 opening for White and holds a purple belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu after two decades of practice.

When he’s not working, David enjoys spending time with his wife and their two young daughters, making family life an important part of his routine.

David holds degrees from Fordham University, the University of Arizona, and Harvard University. He is called to the bar in Arizona, New York, and Ontario.
