Mélanie Cantin (“Mel”) is one of our firm’s articling students for the 2024/2025 term. Mélanie is Franco-Ontarian and recently graduated magna cum laude from the French Juris Doctor program at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law. During the second year of her studies, Mélanie was a student caseworker at the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, where she assisted persons accused of provincial and summary conviction offences with all aspects of their cases. During the second and third years of her law degree, Mélanie was also the teaching assistant for the first-year criminal law course, which allowed her to develop a thorough understanding of the most important cases in Canadian criminal law. Throughout her studies, Mélanie developed a keen interest in criminal evidence law and its many technicalities, as well as a passion for oral advocacy which she pursued by participating in competitive mooting.

Prior to law school, Mélanie obtained a Bachelor of Arts Honours at Carleton University in criminology and criminal justice with a specialization in law and a minor in music, graduating with high distinction. Mélanie strives to become a well-rounded, dedicated advocate who leaves no stone unturned when it comes to upholding the rights of the firm’s clients.

Mélanie est bilingue et parle français.
